Happy Halloween

Derby Lane in St. Petersburg

Take some time this week and go visit historic Derby Lane www.derbylane.com in St Petersburg. The track is the oldest dog track in the United States and it was opened in 1925. This is a very clean and well maintained track with a very friendly staff. The track also has a Poker Room and a restaurant if betting the dogs is not your thing. When the lights go down and the mechanical rabbit is released the excitement begins with the dogs running as fast as they can to the finish line. They have racing six nights a week with a matinee on Wednesday and Saturday. So go see a piece of Florida history bet a few dollars and keep ENJOYING TAMPA BAY!

The HUB in Downtown Tampa

The HUB www.thehubbartampa.com is a cocktail lounge and liquor store that is located at 719 North Franklin Street in Downtown Tampa. The HUB was opened in 1946 just down the street and they moved a few years ago to the current location. The HUB is a unique place with all types of people, cheap strong drinks and some of the best LIVE MUSIC which is offered on different nights during the month. The HUB has received national praise for being a true American Cocktail Lounge with real charm and one of the best Jukebox around. Heritage Village in Largo

This 21-acre living history museum has more than 28 historic local structures with some dating back to the 19th century. There is a school, church, sponge warehouse, railroad depot and general store which is open for business as well as a variety of historic homes to visit and explore. Also right next door is the wonderful Florida Botanical Gardens www.flbg.org take a stroll and see all the beautiful foliage and flowers. Today www.harbourislandartwalk.com from 12-5pm it is the Harbour Island Art Walk located in Downtown Tampa right behind the Tampa Bay Times Forum. There will be unique art, jewelry, home and garden items for sale along with speciality foods. This event is set up on a waterfront setting in a very nice casual neighborhood. Nightmare on Franklin Street

The Tampa Theatre is having their Nightmare on Franklin Street event which is 15 days of scary movies. The Tampa Theatre is located in Downtown Tampa just off Franklin Street. www.tampatheatre.com The Theatre was built in 1926 and has been fully restored and is a great place to see a movie, concert or special event. The Theatre offers a nice selection of beer and wine to enjoy during the show. Their concession stand also has all the regular items as well as special coffees and unique snacks. The Theatre has a beautiful Wurlitzer Organ that rises out of the center of the stage to entertain the audience before every show. A few times a year the theatre shows silent movies and the Wurlitzer Organ is used for the musical score of those films. Also one of the main highlights of this great historical location is the marquee out front it takes you back to a different time. Blast Friday in Downtown Clearwater

Today is the last Friday of the month and from 6-10pm it is Clearwater's FREE monthly event Blast Friday. This is a family friendly event with a stage set up www.clevelandstreetdistrict.com in Downtown Clearwater off of Cleveland Street. The LIVE MUSIC this month is from the band POCO. www.poconut.org  The downtown area has several nice restaurants where you could go have a meal, snack or a cold drink. Also just up the street is Coachman Park which has an interesting view of the Clearwater Beach Causeway it is also a nice place to watch the sunset without going to the beach. Visit the Twisted Martini

Last weekend i went out to the Grand Opening of the Twisted Martini in Clearwater. This is a very nice spot to visit with a outdoor patio, private dinning area and a nightclub.The menu is simple but offered something for everyone from a snack to a full meal. Smoking is permitted outdoors on the patio only making the nightclub smoke free. www.twistedmartinigrill.com The nightclub is very spacious with the large opening night crowd having more than enough room to relax. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the LIVE MUSIC keep everyone dancing and having a good time. Tonight from 8:30pm - 11:30pm one of my favorite local bands www.theblackhonkeys.com the Black Honkeys will be playing they will get you off your feet and on the dance floor with their funky sound. Visit the 8th Avenue Pub

The 8th Avenue Pub www.8thavepub.com is located in Safety Harbor right off of Main Street and 8th Avenue North. This is a very nice local pub with a friendly staff and a daily Happy Hour from 4-8pm. They have a full liquor bar as well as 14 craft beers on tap and a great selection of bottled beer. The pub has LIVE MUSIC on Tuesday, Friday,Saturday and Sunday. The pub also offers Wood Fired Pizza's that are a thin crust 12 inch pie with 6 nice sized slices. The owner Mike is a great guy and he is always around make sure to say hello to him. While in Downtown Safety Harbor make sure to walk down Main Street and see all this great town has to offer. Farmers Market in Gulfport

Every Tuesday from 9am-3pm it is the Gulfport Farmers Market in Downtown Gulfport. www.gulfportma.com This is a beautiful little town that is right on the Gulf. They have nice restaurants, unique shops and events year round. They have an Art Walk the 1st Friday and the 3rd Saturday of every month and many other great festivals. My favorite place to eat in Gulfport is the wonderful Italian bistro Pia's Trattoria www.piastrattoria.com which offers indoor or outdoor seating. The Italian menu has a nice variety of antipasto's, panini's and pasta dishes with a nice selection of beer and wine. The food is always delicious and fresh plus they have a very fun and friendly staff. So go to Gulfport today visit the market have breakfast, lunch or dinner at Pia's and keep ENJOYING TAMPA BAY!

Visit Alesia Restaurant

Last night i visited Alesia Restaurant again in St Petersburg with some friends. This restaurant was founded by three partners with French, Vietnamese and Chinese backgrounds which influences the wonderful mix of dishes and flavours. www.alesiarestaurant.com The restaurant offers outside as well as inside setting. The inside is a open and simple dinning room with local art on the walls and the outside patio is spacious with plants, art and comfortable seating. The menu is simple with a nice variety of dishes to pick from and they also have a good wine and beer selection with reasonable prices and nice sized portions. I had the Asian style beef stew which was fresh, tasty and a very unique dish. The service was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Visit Fort Desoto

May 11, 1963 was opening day for the beautiful Fort De Soto Park www.fortdesoto.com and this year the Park turns 50. The park is located in the southwest corner of mullet creek which is near Tierra Verde. The park has 1136 acres of practically untouched land there is also a beach and a Fort to explore. Will at the park you will see a lot of wildlife so make sure you have your camera. There is a food stand to grab a quick snack and if you want to go exploring even more their is a spot where you can rent a canoe or kayak. The parking fee is $ 5.00 unless you have a disabled parking permit/tag and then there is no fee. If you enjoy camping this is a great location with wonderful facilities and friendly people to meet. Hinder & Candlebox @ the Ritz

Tonight at the Ritz  www.theritzybor.com in Ybor City they are having a Rock Concert with two great bands www.candleboxrocks.com Candlebox and Hinder www.hindermusic.com . The show starts with a Pre Party at 6pm with the LIVE MUSIC starting at 7pm from two warm up bands with Candlebox taking the stage about 9pm and Hinder playing shortly after Candlebox. The Ritz Ybor is a great old theatre that is a wonderful place to see a LIVE show. Even though it is standing room only they have two bar areas that offer drinks and a place to sit if you are rocking out to hard. The Birds @ American Stage

American Stage Theatre Company is located at 163 3rd Street North in Downtown St. Petersburg. The theatre www.americanstage.org was founded in 1977 and is one of the Bay Areas best professional regional equity theatres. The American Stage Theatre Company presents its main stage series in the beautiful 182-seat Raymond James Theatre year round and the annual American Stage in the Park each spring as well as other special events throughout the year. The theatres current production is The Birds which was adapted from the short story by Daphne du Maurier and is directed by Todd Olson. Visit the Hanger Restaurant

Revisited the beautiful and unique Hanger Restaurant www.thehangarstpete.com this weekend it is located at the Albert Whitted Airport in Downtown St. Petersburg. I am happy to say the food and service was as excellent as it had been previously. The restaurant is located upstairs in the main terminal of the airport overlooking the air field. While dining inside or outside you can see private planes landing and taking off and if you feel like some adventure take a helicopter ride with Safari Choppers www.safarichoppers.com and do some great sight seeing from the sky they are located in the lobby. The menu is simple but fun and if you want to try a great southern dish try their Chicken and Waffles. They have easy listening LIVE MUSIC seven nights a week. They also have a very cool bar with comfortable seating if you just wanna snack and have a drink. Many different drink and food specials are offered daily. Rockabilly Revival Today

Today at The Dunedin Smokehouse it is the Rockabilly Revival which is a fund raiser that is benefiting the HEP. The Cadillac Bombers and Izzy and The Catastrophics will be playing LIVE MUSIC between 1pm-8pm. Saturday Market opens in St. Petersburg

Today is the opening day for the SATURDAY MORNING MARKET. This weekly market is Saturdays www.saturdaymorningmarket.com from 9am-2pm and goes from October til the end of May. It is located at 230 1st Street SE in downtown St.Petersburg in the Al Lang Stadium parking lot. The market is celebrating its 11th year and is the southeast's largest outdoor market. There are 130 booths with unique arts and crafts, homemade gourmet and fresh foods, farm produce as well as great weekly LIVE entertainment. Get Downtown 1st Friday Street Party

Tomorrow is the first Friday of the month and it is time again for the Get Downtown First Friday Music Series which is a street party held in Downtown St. Petersburg with LIVE MUSIC from 5:30-10pm. www.firstfridaystpete.com This monthly event is held between 2nd and 3rd street on Central Avenue.
